Key players
The DHWC depends strongly on collaboration with the following people to achieve its mission:
- Fieldworkers in contact with wildlife, for alerting the Centre when abnormal events occur in wildlife populations, and to participate in data, carcass or sample collection for monitoring and surveillance programs;
- Researchers with expertise in different disciplines (e.g., ecology, animal behaviour sciences, pathology, toxicology, etc.), to contribute to the investigation of outbreaks or of targeted wildlife health issues. As a start, protocols of agreement to facilitate collaboration between partner research organisations and DWHC have been made with RIVM and GD-Deventer;
- University lecturers, for including of wildlife health in the curricula;
- Policy makers, for finding the balance between human, domestic animal, wildlife and environmental health interests.
The DWHC is currently financed by Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Food Quality (LNV). |
